Battaglia was a popular form of composition from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The music often focused on giving a programmatic description of the turmoil on the battlefield, complete with cannon shots and clashing swords. Maybe some of this kind of  "military feel of the olden times" is present in this work. Also, the medieval Burgundian L'homme armé (the armed man) melody appears towards the end of the work, integrated within the texture. TR, 2002/2023
